Logo Design & Marketing

Logo Design and Marketing is one of the foremost graphic design studios in the UK and was one of the first design companies on the web to offer an online branding service. Today we are recognised as a market leader consistently delivering leading edge logo designs for clients across the globe. Our client base ranges from one man start up businesses to giant multi nationals. There are 22 of us almost equally split between design directors, designers and website developers.

Logo Design is a full service design agency. We not only design logos and corporate identities but also websites and digital marketing collateral as well as more traditional printed brochures, packaging and exhibition graphics. What sets us apart is that we were established 36 years ago and have over 300 years combined experience in

marketing communications between us what sets us apart from just a graphic design agency Devon is that we combine this provenance with energy, enthusiasm and a creative drive informed by a passion for effective design.

This website showcases examples of our recent work for all shapes and sizes of businesses including several from outside the UK. The logo design portfolio includes brand designs and word marks for a diverse selection of products and services. Our website work is split between a portfolio of brochure websites and an e-commerce website portfolio. We also feature some recently completed projects in our LATEST section and our Logo Design blog is stuffed full of articles, facts and figures and design inspiration.

Logo design & branding

Logo and identity design lie at the core of our business, it’s where we started way back in 1977 and many of our long term clients originally came to us to produce their logo before they progressed to our full design service. Back in the seventies logo design and brand design were largely the preserve of main stream city agencies and there was little appreciation of the commercial potency of brand design outside large corporations. Times have changed, the pop star Prince became a squiggle to preserve his own IP and for many of today’s global enterprises the brand value in their logos features high on their balance sheets.

We are a design agency through and through but marketing is as much a part of our business as design. How can you possibly design an effective logo unless you understand the human context in which it must perform? It is for this reason that our logo design process starts with a detailed brief. Even our basic logo design service for small start up businesses begins with a detailed project briefing form followed up with a telephone interview. Unless we have a reasonable understanding of the objectives, the audience, the marketplace, the competition and the marketing rationale, we are unlikely to come up with appropriate design solutions.

We have complete confidence in the effectiveness of our service, our methodology has been tried and tested over many years and consequently it is ‘satisfaction guaranteed’. We work on a fixed price basis, with fees agreed at the outset of a project before any design work is started. We present a selection of prototype designs in order to start a conversation between our team and the client and this dialogue informs the way the designs evolve. We move through a series of development stages, refining and adjusting concepts until the final design is eventually approved and signed off.

Our Logo design processes are detailed in the About page in the LOGOS section, with further information in the logos FAQs.

Depending on the complexity of the brief and the size of the budget, creating a logo can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks. Design guidelines, which can accompany the logo, detail exactly how the new identity works and demonstrate how it should be applied in different contexts. Brand guidelines range from simple, basic rules to fully-fledged corporate identity manuals covering a comprehensive range of applications. See the BRANDING pages where you will also find Case Histories.

Business start up packages

For start up businesses, product launches or for those with limited budgets we have devised a range of competitively priced ‘Launch’ packages. These bundle our renown logo design service with, for example stationery design, a content managed website, an e-commerce web shop, emailer and/or PowerPoint template.

The Business Launch concept has led us to develop our own content management website systems (CMS) for simple brochure websites (LaunchSite) and e-commerce websites (LaunchShop). These are designed specifically for budget conscious businesses needing a professional presence on the web and a system which allows them to easily manage their own content. We set up each site individually, styling it with the client’s logo and colour schemes and we include full training and support with one-to-one online training sessions and easy to follow manuals. We have built these sites ourselves from the ground up to make them simple to learn and easy to use. They have an excellent range of features that we think most businesses will need and they represent superb value for money. We must stress, however, that these are not bespoke, individually designed and coded websites which require an altogether longer and more detailed process and consequently a significantly higher price.

Website Design

We design and build websites, web apps, portals and applications for businesses and organisations of all shapes and sizes. Our largest single client is a multi national software company for whom we build all sorts of websites and applications but frustratingly we can’t name them or showcase the work we do for them. Needless to say our technical coding skills are world class.

Have a look at the WEBSITE Portfolio with links to a selection of sites we have built recently and where there is also a website FAQs page to answer questions concerning website design and the build processes. There is a separate portfolio of e-commerce websites with its own e-commerce FAQs where we provide a general overview of this relatively complex subject.

As with everything we do we take a pragmatic approach to website design: we need to understand the functionality and communication strategy before we bring our creativity to bear. It is the combination of sound marketing rationale, creative execution and technical expertise that ensure success in the ever-evolving web.

People’s use of the web is changing all the time. Mobile devices, particularly phones are increasingly used to purchase goods and services as well as for accessing information. Sites that are not optimised to work on mobile phones and tablets are maybe missing out on an ever growing portion of their potential audience. Most of the sites we build are responsive: they work on a wide range of screen sizes and devices to deliver the functionality today’s technology offers. Best practice (and Google) demands that websites display quickly and reliably in all the major browsers and operating systems. Search engine optimisation has had to move away from link building scams, both Google and Bing look for engaging content and active, meaningful social networks. Like it or not, if your website is more than two years old, it is probably out of date!

Please download a no-obligation website project briefing form to provide us with some basic information and we will get back to you to discuss your requirements, make suggestions and give you an idea of the likely budget you should be working to.

Digital Design

There was a time, not very long ago, when the lion's share of our work was printed. We designed high-end brochures some with hard bound covers. These days things are different.

Page peeling e-books have largely taken over with their extra functionality and richer content like embedded media with live links and search. PowerPoint is giving way to Prezi and video has been rediscovered by a much savvier corporate world who are broadcasting on You Tube, Vimeo and other content sharing channels.

Just about everyone in business uses email and so, for marketing, it is an imperative to exploit bespoke interactive digital mail tracked with live reporting. It is likely that if you are not engaging with your clients in an interesting and informative way, sooner or later your competitors will capture their attention. Digital designs may not have that wonderful feel and lovely smell of print but it made Richard Parker alarmingly real.

And our clients say...

“I truly believe the work Logo have undertaken on our behalf has fulfilled the brief completely, in fact it has exceeded it. The whole feel of the rebrand exercise has given us a clearly defined banner to march behind, set us apart from our competition. From my own point of view it has totally invigorated me and my enthusiasm and optimism for the future have never been higher. Honestly, words cannot express the gratitude I have for what Olli, yourself and the team at Logo have done for us. Thank You.”

Kindest Regards
Steve Turton

Who we are

Our studio is the engine house which was originally built to house one of the worlds first private electricity generators. It is set in an idyllic parkland location on a private country estate between Exeter and Plymouth in South Devon in the south west of the UK. There’s jogging down the estuary to the beach, dog walking, barbecues and cricket. We have local clients who have used us consistently for all their graphic design requirements from before the invention of the internet. Clients are always welcome to come to our studios to work alongside us although the international nature of our business means the majority of our business is conducted using online screen sharing and conferencing. We have several clients in the Middle East, China, Africa and across the European Union. We work in small teams, often no more than two people: designers are paired with a design director who acts as researcher, project manager, budget accountant and client representative. Pairing creative talent is a classic model used by comedy writers and advertising agencies which team up art directors with copy writers. Fancy a threesome?

Value for money

Search for logo design in Google (it’s very likely how you came to be reading this) and you will find hundreds of companies offering their services from ‘free’ (nothing is free) to a range of unrealistic prices, often quoted in US$. There are no short cuts in the design process, no quick fixes and consequently no ‘cheap’ routes to getting a really good logo design. Apart from a detailed, structured brief, the ingredients for successful design include real talent, experience and a thoroughly supportive creative environment. For a professionally designed logo at a realistic price, you have arrived.
